Frequently Asked Questions

01 Where can I get my skis tuned near Boulder?

SkiBoulder (Alpine Base & Edge) is Boulder's go-to ski tuning shop at 2709 Spruce St. We offer same-day turnaround on most tunes, with prices starting at $65 for a basic tune. Open 7 days a week during ski season — drop off on your way to work and pick up on the way home.

02 How much does a ski tune cost in Boulder?

At SkiBoulder, ski tunes start at $65 for a basic tune (stone grind, edge sharpening, infrared wax). Our All Mountain Tune is $80, and a World Cup Race Tune with hand-finished edges is $125. A quick sharpen and wax is $50, and a standalone infrared wax is $40. Snowboard tunes are $90.

03 How long does a ski tune take?

Most ski tunes at SkiBoulder are completed within 24-48 hours. We also offer same-day service with a rush order fee of $25 depending on our current workload. Race tunes may take slightly longer due to hand-finishing work.

04 Do I need an appointment for ski tuning?

No appointment needed. Just bring your skis or snowboard to our shop at 2709 Spruce St in Boulder during business hours (Mon-Sat 10am-7pm, Sun 12pm-6pm). We'll check them in, discuss what they need, and give you a pickup time. Call (303) 443-0814 if you want to confirm same-day availability.

05 What's the difference between a basic tune and a race tune?

At SkiBoulder, ski tunes start at $65 for a basic tune (stone grind, edge sharpening, infrared wax). Our All Mountain Tune is $80, and a World Cup Race Tune with hand-finished edges is $125. A quick sharpen and wax is $50, and a standalone infrared wax is $40. Snowboard tunes are $90.

06 How often should I get my skis tuned?

We recommend a full tune every 5-7 days of skiing for most recreational skiers. If you notice your edges feel dull, your bases look white or dry, or you're losing grip in turns, it's time. Racers and aggressive skiers should tune more frequently — every 2-3 days of hard skiing.

07 Do you tune snowboards too?

Yes. Our All Mountain Snowboard Tune is $90 and includes a full base grind, edge sharpening with careful detuning at tip and tail contact points, and an all-temperature wax. We work on all board types — freestyle, all-mountain, splitboards, and powder boards.

08 What ski tuning equipment do you use?

We use commercial-grade Wintersteiger stone grinding and edge finishing machines — the same brand used by World Cup service teams. This gives us precise, repeatable results on every tune. Our infrared wax system penetrates deeper than traditional iron-on methods for longer-lasting glide.

09 Should I get new skis tuned before first use?

Absolutely. Factory tunes are basic and often inconsistent. Our New Ski Prep ($40) removes factory grind marks, sharpens edges to proper bevel angles, and saturates the base with hot wax. You'll notice the difference on your very first run — better edge hold, smoother glide, and more control.

10 Where is SkiBoulder located?

Yes. Our All Mountain Snowboard Tune is $90 and includes a full base grind, edge sharpening with careful detuning at tip and tail contact points, and an all-temperature wax. We work on all board types — freestyle, all-mountain, splitboards, and powder boards.
