HOVERCRAFT FAKIE

The World's First Freestyle Whitewater SUP — Now at SkiBoulder

riverskate product on water
//RIVER SKATE COLLECTIVE

What Is the Hovercraft Fakie?

River Skate Collective spent 6 years and 12+ board iterations creating something that didn't exist before — a SUP designed for linked vertical maneuvers like cartwheels, spins, and surfs on whitewater.

Born from a happy accident (fin boxes installed in reverse), the Fakie configuration unlocked riding possibilities the team didn't expect. The result is an ultra-low-volume inflatable SUP that engages the water like a squirt boat but stands up like a paddleboard.

SkiBoulder is the only shop on Colorado's Front Range renting these boards. Walk in, get sized, and hit the water right from our shop on the Boulder Creek Path.

WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT

6 years of R&D. 12+ board iterations.
A completely new category.

1

GRAB WINGS

Patent-pending integrated grab points that dramatically increase secondary stability. Ride lower volume boards than any traditional whitewater SUP allows.

2

FAKIE FIN CONFIG

Reverse-mounted fins discovered by accident, perfected by design. Unlocks front surfing, fakie riding, and transitions that standard SUPs can't do.

3

MULTI-MODE

Stand, kneel, or convert to C-1/kayak configuration. Built-in D-rings and deck inserts for foot hooks. One board, multiple disciplines.

//THE BRAND

About River Skate Collective

Based in Asheville, North Carolina, River Skate Collective is led by a paddler with 30+ years across kayak, C-1, open boat, and squirt boat disciplines. They spent 6 years developing what they call "freestyle whitewater SUP" — bringing kayak-style vertical maneuvers to stand-up paddleboarding for the first time.

The Hovercraft series is the result: ultra-low-volume inflatable boards with patent-pending Grab Wings that engage the water like nothing else on the market.

// FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How do I rent the Hovercraft Fakie?

Walk into our shop on the Boulder Creek Path — no reservation needed. We'll get you sized, give you a quick rundown on the board, and have you on the water in minutes.

02 What's the difference between 120L and 150L?

The 120L (6'8" x 31") is for paddlers up to 175 lbs. The 150L (7'6" x 33") handles up to 225 lbs. Both are 7 cm thick. If you're between sizes, the larger board is more forgiving for learning.

03 Do I need whitewater experience?

Some SUP or paddling experience helps. The Fakie is the most accessible board in River Skate's lineup, but it's designed for moving water — not a beginner flatwater board. Comfortable on a SUP and want to progress? This is your next step.

04 Where can I paddle it near Boulder?

Boulder Creek has play waves right in town. Clear Creek in Golden has great park-and-play spots. The Upper Colorado near Kremmling offers longer runs. Check our water report for current conditions.

05 Can I reserve a rental?

The 120L (6'8" x 31") is for paddlers up to 175 lbs. The 150L (7'6" x 33") handles up to 225 lbs. Both are 7 cm thick. If you're between sizes, the larger board is more forgiving for learning.
