Alpine Base & Edge — Boulder’s Home for Serious Skiers

Alpine Base & Edge isn't just a shop. It's a philosophy: precision, passion, and performance in every turn.

Founded in 2005 by Peter Boyer, who competed on the U.S. Ski Team, Alpine Base & Edge was born from a simple belief — well-tuned skis make better skiers. In a world of batch-tuned gear and big-box shortcuts, Boyer introduced Boulder to hand-finished excellence: edge geometry dialed to the millimeter, base structure refined by terrain type, and waxing clinics that taught locals how to feel the difference underfoot.

From 900 sq. ft. on 15th Street to a 4,000 sq. ft. home on Spruce, Boyer built a reputation that attracted racers from junior leagues to World Cup hopefuls. Precision tuning wasn't just a service — it became a culture. And for Boulder skiers who demanded more from their gear, it became a necessity.

In 2023, new owners Kris and Danielle Steigerwald stepped in to carry that legacy forward. As race parents, lifelong skiers, and local mountain lovers, the Steigerwalds saw an opportunity to merge tradition with transformation. With Kris’s background in tech and Danielle’s deep roots in ski culture, the duo has modernized operations, streamlined service, and expanded visibility — all while keeping the soul of the shop intact.

“We’re obsessed with mastering the art of ski tuning — and committed to helping skiers of all styles ride their best,” says Kris.

Whether you’re carving gates with EMSC, catching air in the terrain park, or chasing pow in the backcountry, Alpine Base & Edge is your shop — local, authentic, and relentlessly focused on performance.
